Germaine Derbecq nació el 3 de enero de 1899 en París, Francia.
Estudió en La Grande Chaumière y luego en la Academia Ranson con André Lhote.
En 1918 expuso por primera vez en el Salon d´Automne.
Conoció a Pablo Curatella Manes y se casaron en 1922. En 1934 nació Jorge, su hijo. En la década del 30 pintó y expuso con frecuencia.
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial vivieron en París; entre 1949 y 1950 en Dinamarca, Noruega y Grecia. En 1951 se instalaron definitivamente en Buenos Aires, y dos años más tarde inició su labor como crítica de arte en el periódico Le Quotidien, espacio que sostendrá por casi veinte años.
Entre 1960 y 1963 fue curadora y directora de la Galería Lirolay, luego se vinculó con la Galería Guernica. En 1962 realizó la exhibición “Pablo Manes y 30 artistas argentinos de la nueva generación” en la Galería Creuze de París.
Fue jurado de prestigiosos premios, entre ellos el Premio Braque, organizado por la Embajada de Francia en Argentina. En 1970, junto a Silvia de Ambrosini, Odile Barón Supervielle y Lidy Prati fundó la revista Artinf.
Falleció en Buenos Aires el 22 de diciembre de 1973.
Germaine Derbecq was born on January 3, 1899 in Paris, France.
She studied at La Grande Chaumière and then at the Ranson Academy with André Lhote.
In 1918 she exhibited for the first time at the Salon d´Automne. She met Pablo Curatella Manes and they married in 1922. In 1934 Jorge, her son was born. In the 1930s she painted and exhibited frequently.
During World War II they lived in Paris; between 1949 and 1950 in Denmark, Norway and Greece. In 1951 they settled permanently in Buenos Aires, and two years later she began her work as an art critic in the Le Quotidien newspaper, a space that she will hold for almost twenty years.
Between 1960 and 1963 she was curator and director of the Lirolay Gallery, then she linked up with the Guernica Gallery. In 1962 she held the exhibition "Pablo Manes and 30 Argentine artists of the new generation" at the Creuze Gallery in Paris. She was a jury of prestigious awards, including the Braque Award, organized by the French Embassy in Argentina. In 1970, together with Silvia de Ambrosini, Odile Barón Supervielle and Lidy Prati she founded the magazine Artinf.
She died in Buenos Aires on December 22, 1973.
